Hello! My name is Bob, and last night I was all snug in my bed while visions of green saison bottles danced in my head. That qualifies me to write this month’s Amory’s Tomb Newsletter! Here’s the latest from the Tomb:
Beer Garden Season Winding Down in December, But Won’t End Before Another Dance Party!
Things are winding down in the Beer Garden. For the rest of the month of December the Beer Garden will be open on Fridays from 4-9pm, Saturdays 12-9pm and Sundays 12-6pm. Perico’s is gone the weekend before Christmas due to weather, stay tuned for changes to our hours…
What can you expect when you visit the Beer Garden in December? Yes it’s cool out, but my experience both this December and last is that a few layers and the gas heaters will work just fine! It’s not like you will be demanding to drag a trash barrel into the garden and light its contents on fire, or anything like that! Though in the interest of full transparency, this was discussed a couple of weeks ago. I think the person who suggested it was kidding. At least I hope so…
If burning trash barrels strikes you as a somewhat extreme strategy for keeping warm in the Beer Garden, might I suggest a somewhat less flammable alternative - dancing! If that sounds like a better idea, Amory’s Tomb has you covered! That’s right, there will be another Friday Night Dance Party (now rebranded as an “Ice Party”) on December 21st. It will most definitely be the Metrowest’s Only Open Air Dance Party!
Despite the Ice Party, Beer Garden season is winding down. Rick drained the taps a few weeks ago. Interestingly, the lack of draughts on the menu makes clearer just how massive the AT can and bottle list is at the moment. They seem to have a little bit of everything available right now! Seriously, they have bottles and cans of everything from the most approachable lagers and ales to the funkiest farmhouse ales available for onsite enjoyment or to-go.
Not only is draught beer gone, but perhaps even more shockingly the Beer Garden is (temporarily) out of Underberg Bitters! So if you have yet to try an “Under Latch” or the highly controversial “Berg Interrupted”, it looks like you will have to wait until next year.
Another reason to visit the Tomb in December is to stock up on provisions for the winter! Once January hits, the Beer Garden will have more irregular hours for the rest of winter. Follow their social media for the latest updates, though realistically I don’t expect them to be opening the Beer Garden much, if at all, in January.
And you know what? That’s fine with me because it’ll give time for Allen and Rick to focus on more important matters. Speaking of which…
Taproom Update - Sure Looks Like It’s Getting Close Now!
Have you looked into the front window of the tap room recently? OMG! If you look really quickly you could convince yourself the taproom ought to be open right now!
The main bar is there, as well as the bars around the wall. There are stools all over the place. They’ve got holiday lights and decorations in the windows. Even the old to-go fridge with the AT logo printed over a fluffy blue sky (which always seemed so incongruous the rest of the vibe - how did happy clouds get into the tap room?) is right there, full of beer just waiting to be bought.
Of course, if you look a little more closely you can see there’s still a fair bit of work to be done. Over the past few weeks the tile has come in, and as I write this the installation process has begun. The sheet rock is in too. But, speaking as an outsider who has almost no skills when it comes to home repair, it sure looks like it won’t be too long now!
In last month’s newsletter (You did read last month’s newsletter, right??) I reported Allen saying that the taproom was on track for a winter opening. Allen is still holding to that!
And if worse comes to worse, I will remind you that the Beer Garden was open for St. Patrick’s Day this year. That’s only 3 months away. Just sayin’!
RE: January Hours
A note from the editor’s here - we’ll be open select hours in January, we’re just working out the details with Perico’s and trying to wrap up the rest of this little construction project going on inside. We’ll get an update out about the schedule changes ASAP. In the meantime thank you all for a wonderful 2024. A huge thank you to our dear friend and author of the monthly Newsletter, Bob!
That’s A Wrap!
Well, that about does it for 2024 at Amory’s Tomb. What a year it’s been! Here are my favorite 2024 Beer Garden memories, in no particular order:
Ben’s Raclette on a Cool Fall Afternoon
Arguments over “draught” vs. “draft”
Perico’s Tacos Literally Every Friday, and then Saturday
Underberg Shots
Friday Night Dance Parties
Man Bun Hot Beer When It Is Literally Hot Out
Asking Allen, “How’s the tap room coming?”
That Look on Allen’s face when I would ask him “How’s the tap room coming?”
Discussions of Lemur Habits
Meeting So Many Good Dogs!
DJ Nothing Means Nothing
Writing this Newsletter - Technically I don’t write it at the Beer Garden, but I do get my ideas there. And it’s been a lot of fun!
No doubt there are plenty of other highlights I missed.
And let’s not forget all the terrific beer Allen and Rick released in 2024! They had Man Bun available for the entire season - truly a miracle! They had Saison Classic bottles to enjoy with your raclette and The Golden Rule Pale Ale draughts to go with your tacos. They even closed out the year with a 6th anniversary Barrel-Aged Brett IPA, Broadcast Interrupted, which I am finding that I like even more every time I order it.
Here’s the really good news. For all the great times we had at the Beer Garden in 2024, 2025 promises to be an even better year! The Tap Room will open next year! It won’t be too long until the blessed day arrives. Check your inbox for an email from Allen and Rick announcing that it’s finally time. Oh, and if Allen and Rick are still willing to let me, I’ll then start flooding your inbox with more of these typo-riddled newsletters too!
In the meantime, I wish all of you a fantastic end to 2024 and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
